Emerging from our brief hiatus, Stimulus Response returns with some new additions - opening DJs that deserve to be heard by more people and live percussionists. Yah, most of these people are our friends too, but who said nepotism wasn't a part of the club scene? Let's not kid ourselves though...friends or not, these are some TALENTED MOFOS.
Let's break it down:
Opening DJs Mike Terra and Terry Nova from Shackarone Entertainment have built a strong following for themselves amongst 20-somethings from all over New York City. Mixing progressive and tech-house, these two up-and-comers brings lots of energy and youthful good looks (hubba hubba) to the proceedings. They have been long supporters of the Stimulus party and vibe and are now ready to add their own flavor to the mix. We welcome them as our featured openers and this will also allow birthday boy SEAN CORMAC to belly up to the bar in a relaxed fashion while the young bucks earn their keep. We'll have our eyes on you Terra, Terry, you YOUNG MOFOS!!!
Back in the day when NYC was a lot grittier than it is now, and drag queens were seriously deciding who was and who wasn't fabulous enough to get into the party, before bottle service and laptop DJs, nightclubs hired percussionists to play along. WHY? Because it brought the energy up ten-fold and brought out the inherent Latin and African rhythms in 1990s house music. So what will happen when we put live percussionists over the new techier sounds? Let's find out!!!! We predict it will be energetic, fun, creative, and different. Our first man stepping up to this live petri dish of musical experimentation will be none other than JIMMY LOPEZ, a veteran of the live percussion scene and one BAD ASS MOFO!!!!
Residents Sean Cormac and Lola will keep the rocketship in orbit. YOU, our aural astal travelers, will rock the boat. The boat is now the SS REBEL, not a new venue, but a new venue for US. Rebel is a multi-room venue that is programming a mix of music. Going back to that golden era of NYC clubbing, the 1990s, clubs had a hiphop room, a reggae room, the house room, the ravey room, the chill out room, etc. Rebel will be repping a variety of sounds with its new weekend format and STIMULUS RESPONSE will be part of the mix. We will be in the upstairs room, the long one...forget what it's called...the disco room, the mofo room, the party room...whatever it's called, it's upstairs, there's a long bar for all your drunkards, a very nice, all-wood dancefloor (I mean, c'mon, it HAS to be all-wood dancefloor but we have come to accept so much less...it's tragic really) and the option to go lose yourself in the rave-trance-hillbilly-crunk room, if you so desire. Taking it back 90s style, YAH MOFOS!
