hadn't made a straight up house CD in many moons. this has house of all sorts and little dash of disco
• equinox - code 718 (remix) I've been feeling just about anything Herick Schwarz does for the last 5 years. This is a remix of the Strictly Rhythm classic
• sade - couldn't love you more (regisford/rios remix) kind of a no-brainer. sounds great in a club cuz sade ALWAYS sounds great
• ethyl & huxley - catch up very jimpsta-esque deep house from these two London producers
• kuniyuki - dear african sky (henrik Schwarz remix) more Henrik. Fucking LOVE this shit. Did an edit to bring the vocals back more than once
• lelethu - ndimnosindo (rocco remix) rising star of the south african house scene. Rocco delivers yet again.
• wiretrapper - i want you Some techy shit. Gotta be German (?)
• q-boyz - it's ok tech house from this Italian crew of DJs
• lil louis and the world - the conversation the new release can't hold a candle to the genius of the original. I edited the first horn rif forever for long blends like this
• marlon d - jesus creates sound (blend) blended this on top of the conversation to give it some UMPH
• dj gregory - con alegria a bit harder than gregory's older shit. real party shit
• kerri chandler - yellow classic kerri. I always associate this track with Eman cuz he played it at Bang every week for a year, when it came out
• sunburst band - garden of loveCan you believe it's been ten years already? Also Occurred to me I never knew what the loop was (anybody?)
• Playin' for the city - look over your head a slept on cut circa 2000 or so from Olivier Portal
• smash hunter - dig deeper respectful bite of "can you feel it". I feel like Smash has yet to reach his true potential as a house producer. He was a hero of mine in the old Giant Step days
• bill withers - who is he... (henrik schwarz remix) even with the wobbly pitched vocals I still love this 2008 record
• wood brass and steel - funkanova (138 EDIT) did my own edit, as I always found the song too busy to blend
• le cop - le roc always meant to put this on a mix
• modern romance - everybody salsa one of those songs you can play to almost any NY crowd over 30 and everybody knows it
• earth wind and fire - happy feelings if only they'd kept the kalimba so upfront in their later super hits
• kc flight - let's get jazzy never get tired of this. fuckin' sue me
• san soda - doorsnee props to lola for posting this on the page. dope pepe braddock type shit.
• jimpsta - sleeper the man can do no wrong
• dj t - dis can't remember who's mix this is. it's become quite popular on Beatport recently, crossing genres all over the place
• diaraby nene - oumon singaré for my shelter heads. never heard this anywhere else
• dj fudge - midnight sun dj fudge knows how to freak some drums, that's for damn sure. Ran the "day and night" acapella over it for shits n giggles
• marlon d - nasa (dub) marlon's tribute to gloria muse IMO.
• james brown - there was a time (138 EDIT) Blended this over the marlon D and tried to work the levels to pull back during the verse just like James
• osunlade feat maiya james - same thing(138 EDIT) did an edit of this 2004 gem to drag out that intro synth shit. that part was always way too short for me
• dan electro - that's what i want lord this cat is always on some new shit, and theirs often some kind of gospel singer amdist harder beats. This song, however, takes a juke rhythm and makes something buttery smooth and moody
• gotye - heart's a mess (supermayer mix) another juke rhythm to close it out. Came out on Kompact. Gorgeous vocals and strings and bird sfx from Australian based singer-songwriter Gotye
DJ JULIAN BEVAN - LACK OF FOCUS
click to stream - right click / control click to download
reggae, funk, rock, afrobeat, disco, salsa, cha cha, punk, house - hence the title
• derrick laro & trinity - don't stop til you get enough the best reggae ersion of an MJ song that I know of. Trinity pon de chat.
• the belle stars - the clapping song I bit this from drilla's mix a few months back cuz it was dope
• sequence - funky sound great party music for any crowd
• the hot 8 brass band - what's my name dope new orkleans brass band covering Snoop Dogg
• marijata - no condition is permanent funky ass shit from late 70s Ghana channeling James Brown
• steve miller band - macho city (138 EDIT) edited out the vocals and ran an acapella of D'angelo Barksdale breaking down the chess game. Wire heads know of which I speak.
• michael jackson - heartbreak hotel richie rich made a thread about this song a few months back. I agree its some of MJ's best work ever
• melba moore - standing right here always meant to put this on a mix. that end drum breakdown always sneaks up on me like a mofo
• crown heights affair - you gave me love makes me wish I lived in NYC when this came out
• joe batan - mestizo goofy yet powerful anthemic lyrics about repping for la raza
• la lupe - fever she just kills this shit from beginning to end. you cannot fuck with la lupe.
• cuarteto d'aida - las mulatas del cha cha cha found this on a compilation. has a very old timey swing to it, like it belongs in a looney tunes cartoon
• the slits - heard it through the grapevine switched it up with maybe the most danceable punk rock version of a marvin gaye song ever
• micachu & the shapes - calculator british avant garde singer songwriter and her band make music right now that seems to defy all genres. the world needs more weirdness like this.
• gloria jones - tainted love the one, the only, the original
• munich machine - get on the funk train (Tim Sweeney EDIT) long sweeney edit great for playing to a party at its peak
• leila - little acorns funky Fatboy Slim-sounding beats from Iranian-born London-based electronica chick
• cool shop - trumpet girl jump up party shit
DJ JULIAN BEVAN - BEACH VICODIN ZONE OUT
click to stream - right click / control click to download
this mix is just what it sounds like. mellow. hypnotic. 110bpm nu disco and electronica. songs are long and spacey. I listened to it every day on the beach in Nicaragua. Vicodin and rum do wonders for your beach hang.
• birth control - plastic people (inflagranti bite EDIT) first heard this at a "no ordinary monkey" party. Inflagranti took this obscure prog rock song and slowed down to -16 and somehow it still works. I couldn't find the vinyl so I did my own edit.
• dolle jolle - balearic incarnation (Terje remix)I love everything Todd Terje does
• simon baker - plastic (Terje remix) what did I just say?
• spargo - go (lovefinger EDIT) stole this from The Loft compilation. Who the hell was "lovefingers" anyway? Mr Mancuso?
• max berlin - elle et moi dude does a pretty good serge gainsbourg. Works with the vicodin since I don't speak French
• dj hell - angst pts 1 & 2 this might be the dopest thing DJ Hell has ever done. Long and beautiful and moody and a total departure from his aggro club shit.
• rude66 - die starke der venichtended schlage groovy druggy and weird
• imagination - illusion (lindstrom remix) lindstrom did his thing. When the bassline finally comes in you're like "oooooooh damn"
• damien lazarus - moment funky shit from this British minimal techno producer
• lindstrom - the long way home more lindstrom. the first song from his 2008 EP. Sadly I ran out of space on the CD. This song is actually 27 minutes long (!)
That's it for now. I'm off on vacation for a week or so. Every mix I've ever done can be found HERE
