Fast
paced editing, a worldwide scope, local music, a depiction of the
evolution of graffiti artists, coverage of the scene then and now,
interviews with celebrities and interviews with Graffiti legends
all make this a compelling “must see” film. BounceFM gives the
film 5 stars and our highest honor, the quality seal of approval!
Over
the course of 90+ minutes, director Jon Reiss takes viewers on a
world wide graffiti journey. Highlights of the film include:
-
NIGHT
VISION: night vision footage of actual bombing from quick throw
ups to full top-to-bottoms.
-
ANIMATIONS:
the film cleverly makes use of animations to bring some of the
graffiti masterpieces to life.
-
GAFFITI
LEGENDS: NYC heads would definitely appreciate interviews with
graffiti legends that I personally have never seen captured on
film – cats like Cope, Revs and Taki 183.
-
FEMALE
LEGENDS: Jon avoids graffiti's male gender bias by showcasing its
feminine side including female graf writers Lady Pink (NYC),
Mickey (Holland), and DJ Lady Tribe (Los Angeles) – a gorgeous
buxom, blond, bodacious Latina and former graf writer (now DJ).
And don't get it twisted, she's fly, but she's gangta and she
lets you know you will get a beatdown if you step to her or her
kru the wrong way. Watch her reaction when they discover someone
has done graffiti on her house. Classic!
-
PIONEERS:
We like the fact that Jon takes us back old school to Philly to
interview the original graf writer CORNBREAD to hear his story in
his own words.
-
ENTREPRENEURS:
Fashion entrepeuer with over $1billion in retail sales Mark Ecko
gives us his take on graffiti.
-
CELEBRITIES:
Super star rapper KRS-ONE makes multiple appearances in the film.
His perspective and energy are both appreciated.
-
POLICE:
Showing the other side of the coin, the film gets the input and
feedback on graffiti from a police perspective – including
NYC's Vice Squad.
-
CONTROVERSY:
The film presents graf from a different perspective: the shop
owner who's store continually gets bombed. The painter who loves it because shop owners call him paint over their graffiti destroyed store fronts. The van owner whose vehicle continually gets defaced
by graffiti artists, politicians who point out that graffiti is a
stepping stone crime, that can lead to other more serious crimes,
and community activists who point out the link between graffiti,
crime and urban decay.
-
WORDLWIDE:
We also love the worldwide perspective, showcasing the graf
scene, artists and writers from around the world including but
not limited to Amsterdam, New York, LA, Philly, South Africa,
Hamburg, Tokyo, London, etc.
-
EVOLUTION:
We also love the 360 perspective of the graffiti artists.
Throughout the film, we see some have evolved into graphic
artists, street artists, fine artists and entrepreneurs. Others
have remained rough rugged and raw, still seeking that high.
If
Style Wars was the gold standard of graffiti documentary films,
Bomb It is the new Platinum standard. Bomb It is dope! Don't
sleep on this movie. See it today!
